Well hello.

WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF KELS

Hi!  Welcome to the webpage about me.  My given name, Kelly, is often shortened to Kels by those I know.  This website is full of stuff that I find interesting and that manage to entertain me in some weird way.  Hope you enjoy it!

For up-to-date information and thoughts I that consider profound but aren't, check out my new

Blog!

Let it be known that you were here - sign my guestbook!

My story:

I was born in Plano, Texas and lived the normal schoolgirl life until I came to Texas A&M University in the Fall of 1999.  I did a few cool things here and there and managed to make it through pretty well.  In May 2003 I graduated with an extremely sought-after degree in Biomedical Engineering, and I often look at the HUGE diploma framed on my wall to remind me that I had at one time finished school.  But now I'm back in school, living off of loan money and still not contributing to the economy . . . because I'm in med school.

Medical School:

Yep, that's right.  I'm a third year medical student at the Texas A&M College of Medicine.  I'm pretty happy about that.  It’s been fun so far – classes are interesting, and my classmates are even more interesting!  There’s an incredible amount of diversity which is refreshing for College Station/Temple, and I think most of them speak about 8 or 9 languages each.  Since I’m up to 1.43 languages now, I feel pretty competitive.

Currently I live in Temple, TX, the megaplex of the universe (next to the Milky Way galaxy).  Scott & White Memorial Hospital is where I train, and it is a huge and fabulous facility that overlooks the entire town (and probably employs most of the surrounding area . . . except for Schlotzsky's - they employ the rest).  I really do love training at Scott & White.  The attendings, residents, and nurses are all extremely friendly, and it creates a good learning environment.  Way to go people!

The magic question these days is "what do you want to specialize in?"  I hate that question because it means I have to make a decision, and unfortunately I like too many things.  For now, my choice is Ob/Gyn, probably maternal-fetal-medicine or Gyn-Onc.  My favorite part is delivering the babies - I guess you could say I'm an adrenaline junky, who likes the end result to be . . . a baby.  I'd like to stay in academia for a while and do some mission work on the side.  Hopefully my engineering degree and research experience will prove helpful in those technological advances I'd like to make in the field.  :)

How did I get into medical school?  This pretty much says it all:

Stuff I like in general:

In my free time, I enjoy SLEEPING, playing my guitars (my Baby Taylor and my strat), reading, working out, rock climbing, cultivating relationships with friends and family in the least amount of time as possible, and doing all the normal things that medical students like to do (studying).  Maybe one day I can train for a triathlon like I did last year.  Maybe one day I can also return to Russia, one of the strangest, coolest, and most addictive countries on earth.

Other time-consuming passions:

Besides the obvious medical stuff, I enjoy learning about apologetics and physics.  Despite the perceived great chasm between the two subjects (which actually doesn't exist when you research it), they could keep me busy for years.  Stephen Hawking and C.S. Lewis are some favorites.  Anthropology is also cool.  I also like talk radio and learning about finances.  And my new iPod Nano (heck yeah!  I've joined the cultural revolution).

People and pets:

Here's my sis, Whitney!  She is a junior Business - Management/International Business major at Texas A&M.  She lives in College Station, so it gives me an excuse to go back every now and then.  This one is going to be a big shot someday.

Here is a picture of my puppy Angel.  Isn't she so cute?  (yes, I am pathetic and take pictures of my dog . . . yes, and she's wearing a sweater, that's even more pathetic)  Fortunately she stays with the parents.  I couldn't take good care of her since I'm at school 21 hours each day.

These days I live in a house very close to Scott & White.  It's a nice old house in a neighborhood of elderly people.  Somehow we escaped the 65 years or older requirement.  But we like living here.  I live with my roomies Susie, Kate, and Berta the destroyer.

(My pals - Sus and Kay-TEE)

Berta is Susie's dog and was acquired from the pound in a moment of weakness last year.  She started out as all cute and cudly . . .

But unfortunately has now grown to the point where she can eat our remote (twice), wallets, and ophthalmoscope.  Her favorite hobby is taking Susie's clothes, shoes, underwear, bedspread, and medical equipment outside through her doggie door while we are gone all day.  Who's the dog in this relationship?

George also stops by after Parisan visits (life-size cardboard cutout George).

That's about it for now.  I hope you have enjoyed my new and improved site.  Please continue to browse its pages - there are tons of awesome pictures and things that will bring you much enjoyment.  Thanks - MGMT.
